Brutal Nation Podcast

A dark and sinister podcast series, Brutal Nation with your hosts Scott Alexander and Tammy Underwood. Two individuals focused on delving into the world of lesser-known serial killers from across the globe. First, they begin by exploring the background of each killer featured. For instance, you will be provided with as much detail as possible about their early life. Specifically when and where they were born, as well as their family life. Granted, oftentimes, this information is hard to come by, but Scott and Tammy do their best to uncover it for you. Second, they attempt to provide listeners with as much detail of the killer’s criminal life they can find. From their perspective, this information is vitally important when discussing each individual killer they are featuring.

Finally, Scott and Tammy will add their own commentary on what they feel drove each killer to commit these horrific atrocities. To be sure, they by no means claim to be experts in the field of criminal psychology. However, they have each always had a fascination with the subject matter and they want to share that fascination with others. Moreover, Scott and Tammy would like to make it clear that they do not, at any time condone the actions of these individuals. They simply have a desire to offer their perspective and perhaps provide an alternative viewpoint. Scott and Tammy focus on a different genre of serial killer each day of the week.

What Type of Cases Will You Find Here?

MEDICAL CASES

Often called ‘Angels of Mercy’. Don’t let that moniker fool you. In fact, they are more like ‘Angels of Death’. Although this specific genre of murder can fall into any one or more of the six typologies that characterize a serial killer, it’s important to note their specific motivations will also vary. However, these motivations have many commonalities.

Two of the most common motivations are power/control and seeking attention for diagnosing/saving a patient.  Additionally, these types of killers have also claimed to have committed their crimes out of mercy, eliminating those they found to be demanding/bothersome and desire to free up beds/space for high demand.  Monetary gain might be claimed. However, this is rare.  Listen in as Scotty and Tammy explore what drives the individual featured here

TWISTED COUPLES & BIZARRE CASES

The majority of these cases have the hosts exploring the unique dichotomy of couple/group killers. Here’s what we must note: First, the roles are not gender-specific. They are most definitely complex. It’s important to state, there is absolutely no stereotypical couple. Especially in association with this type of crime. They can fall into the categories below:

  • Family Members
  • Friends
  • Co-Workers
  • Business Partners
  • Romantic Partners

One thing that is certain is the dynamic between the individuals. This is always consistent. One individual will be dominant. Someone with a driven personality. One or more will be submissive. Someone with a complacent personality. To be sure, this codependent relationship draws them to one another. Scott and Tammy will focus on individuals that meet this criterion. Meet it in a sinister way.

WOULD-BE & WHODUNIT CASES

When it comes to the would-be and whodunit cases Scott and Tammy explore two unrelated genres of murder. Their decision to do so is simple. Each genre on its own has such a small pool to draw from. That said, here’s what to expect:

The first genre is “Would Be Killers”. Specifically “Kids Who Kill”. For the most part, parameters that qualify a serial killer will not be met. But Scott and Tammy discuss what nature of the crime qualifies them for this podcast. If they were allowed to continue to go free.

The second genre is “Whodunit Killings” Murders that are serial in nature, but still unsolved. The hosts delve into what links the murders. They talk about the associated suspects. This category of killers is quite unique in nature. Specifically due to the uncertainty of it all.

THOUGHT-PROVOKING CASES

With the thought-provoking cases, Scott and Tammy feature killers that won’t fall into the other categories. They hope the individuals will be truly thought-provoking. On account of not fitting into a specific category, the sheer possibilities are endless. No matter, they hope these offerings will be fascinating if not completely sinister.

FETISH CASES

The fetish cases will be the most disturbing, of this dark, and sinister podcast series day of them all. For the majority of the cases, they had to step back from their research from time to time. It has to be noted the most common typology associated here is lust killings. There’s always a fetish to one or more aspects of the ritual. A particular deviant behavior providing sexual stimulation. Where the only release is through acts of violence and murder. They have a ‘Listener Discretion’ on all of their episodes. It is critically advised on Friday due to the extremely graphic nature of the episodes. Tune in to find what fetishes drive some to the truly unthinkable.
